How to Build a Production App in 2 Minutes (No, Really)

·4 min read

Two minutes. That's how long it takes to go from a blank canvas to a working app running in the live preview. Here's exactly how it works — and what still takes longer.

1The Setup (30 seconds)

Sign up for Forge. Connect your GitHub. Done. You're ready to build.

Minute 1: Describe What You Want

Open Forge and type a single prompt describing what you want to build. Be specific about:

  • What the app does (core functionality)
  • Who the users are (their goals and needs)
  • Any specific features or integrations you need
  • Any design preferences or constraints

The more specific you are, the better the output. Think of it like writing a really good product brief — one paragraph is enough.

Example prompt:

"A project management tool for small marketing agencies. Teams can create projects, assign tasks, set deadlines, and track time. Clients can view project progress without signing in. Includes billing integration."

That's it. One prompt. Forge handles the rest.

2The Build (60 seconds)

Watch as Forge generates your application — real files, a real database schema, real authentication — and boots it in the live preview. Deployment is a separate step you trigger when you're happy with it.

What Gets Built

In that first minute, Forge creates:

  • Full-stack application — Next.js frontend with App Router, PostgreSQL backend with Row Level Security
  • Database schema — Automatically designed based on your use case, with proper relationships and indexes
  • Authentication — Built-in auth with email, Google, and GitHub login
  • UI components — Shadcn/ui design system, fully responsive, accessible by default
  • API layer — Type-safe API routes with proper validation and error handling
  • Deployment — Ships to Forge Runtime, our own managed infrastructure, not a third-party host you have to sign up for

Minute 2: Review and Launch

Once the build is complete, you see a full preview of your app. You can:

  • Click through every screen to verify functionality
  • Request changes with natural language ("make the login button bigger")
  • Add new features mid-conversation
  • Connect your own billing account when ready

When you're satisfied, click "Deploy." The app is built and shipped to our managed infrastructure with a real URL you can share.

3Total Time: ~2 minutes to a working preview

Blank canvas to a running app you can click through. Deploying it to a shareable URL is a few more minutes, and the polish after that is up to you.

What Makes This Different

You might be thinking: "I've seen app builders before. They make generic prototypes, not real apps."

Fair concern. Here's what makes Forge different:

  • Real code, not generated blobs. Forge produces clean, readable TypeScript that you own. Export it, modify it, host it anywhere.
  • The backend is built in. Database, auth, and billing are generated alongside the UI — not left as a TODO list for you.
  • Iterate with conversation.Don't like something? Tell Forge. Want a new feature? Ask for it. The app updates in seconds.
  • No lock-in.Export the repo and run it anywhere. Usage is metered against your plan's monthly credit allowance — see the pricing page for the exact limits.

Where the two minutes stops

Two minutes gets you a running app to react to. It does not get you a finished product. You still have to review the screens, decide what the marketing site says, set your pricing, and ship it to people who might care. That part is not automatable, and anyone selling it as such is selling you a demo.

What the two minutes replaces is the week you'd otherwise spend scaffolding routes, wiring a database, and debugging the first boot. The judgment calls stay yours.

Try It Now

2 minutes. That's all it takes to find out if your idea works. No credit card. No commitment. Just a faster path to knowing whether people want what you're building.

Your blank canvas is waiting.
